The Value of Astrology
for the individual
Astrology reveals how any experience fits into the larger pattern of a life structure or life plan. The chaos, the pain, the seeming randomness of our lives coalesce before our eyes into an orderly system. We end up spending a lot less time swimming against the tide. Showing man the meaningfulness of his life is maybe the most important thing that astrology can do.
Astrology holds a mirror before the self: we stand outside our personalities and see our central core. We witness ourselves. Given a perspective and detachment from mind and ego patterns, we can perceive what is real. We develop a keener alertness regarding the comforting lies we love so well. The birthchart reveals these patterns clearly — enabling us to deal more effectively with our habits. We don't get so hung up on our experiences, frustrations or blockages.
Astrology provides a pattern of growth and development far superior to any other psychological tool. It can indicate what we should be working on, what inner patterns we are coming to terms with, the essential meaning of a particular experience or phase of life, their approximate duration, an accurate way of timing the changes in our life.
Astrology helps us to develop patience: we witness how elements of our existence are subject to an already-established periodicity and cyclic rhythm, allowing for an active alignment with divine timing.
Astrology describes not a static fate but a flowing life pattern, full of options and risks. We are inspired to live more fully and confidently, with a deeper sense of purpose.
Astrology provides us with faith in something greater than mere ego consciousness: faith in one’s real self. It enables us to tune in more clearly or precisely on our inner power — using thought, will, and creative vitality to mold a better way of living.
Astrology enables us to better understand the Universal Laws that pervade all life. Among these laws are: order, balance, cause and effect (karma), vibration, cycle, polarity, ‘what you think you become’, and ‘like begets like’.
Astrology helps the counselor to interact with the client more objectively — to attune to him according to the individual's own nature rather than projecting unconscious assumptions on him/her. No other system permits the counselor to be so absolutely, compassionately objective.
Astrology facilitates times of individual initiation — those challenging, often painful times of confrontation and marked growth.
Astrology provides a means whereby our deepest feelings and unconscious yearnings are brought to awareness and given form — as they are transformed into a reservoir of freshly-liberated creative energy, giving us new direction and meaning in life.
Astrology enables us to determine the type of activities in which our life energies can flow with the greatest amount of ease and satisfaction — how to bend the probability curves of our lives in the direction of personal fulfillment and growth.
Astrology helps us to have greater confidence in ourselves by confirming the intimations, feelings, and inner knowledge that we may have been afraid to express or even trust.
Astrology help us in the realization that ‘the world is a stage’ and that we are merely playing a part in this vast drama. Such realization gives us perspective and a sense of humor, making life easier to deal with. It also leads us to consider some important questions: who is the actor in this drama? Who is the director? And who is the author?
Astrology shows that our total being is comprised of many forces, needs, and urges ― many interacting dynamics. It helps us to identify with the totality of this living process rather than with just one or two limited, and limiting, dimensions of experience.
Astrology enables us to align ourselves with our true nature ― rather than molding ourselves to fit a man-made theory of how we should be. The birthchart is the best guide we have to lead us back to ourselves.
